What happens to your details.

Plain English, same as everything else here. This page explains what information this website collects, why, how long it's kept and what you can ask me to do with it.

Who I am

This website is run by Thomas Wood, trading as Highstreet Signal, a sole trader based in South Wales, UK. For data protection purposes I am the "data controller" — the person responsible for your information and for answering any questions about it.

Email: thomaswood@highstreetsignal.co.uk
Postal address: [[POSTAL ADDRESS]]

What this site collects

There is only one place on this website where you can give me your information: the contact form. When you use it, I receive:

  • Your name
  • Your business name, if you give one
  • Your email address
  • Your existing website address, if you give one
  • Which package and care plan you're interested in
  • Whatever you write in the message box

Nothing else is collected automatically. This site does not run advertising trackers, and does not build a profile of you or sell anything about you to anyone.

Why I use it, and on what basis

I use your details for one purpose: to reply to your enquiry, discuss what you need and give you a quote. Under UK GDPR the lawful basis is taking steps at your request before entering into a contract (Article 6(1)(b)). Where an enquiry doesn't lead to work, I rely on legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) to keep a short record of the conversation.

I won't add you to a mailing list or send you marketing on the back of an enquiry unless you specifically ask me to.

Where it goes

The contact form sends your message to a Google Workspace account, where it is recorded in a private spreadsheet and emailed to me. Google acts as a processor on my behalf and may process the data outside the UK; those transfers are covered by Google's standard data protection terms and the UK's approved transfer safeguards.

The website itself is hosted by [[HOSTING PROVIDER]], who keep standard server logs on my behalf.

Nobody else sees your enquiry. I don't share it with other clients, partners or advertisers.

How long it's kept

  • Enquiries that don't become work: kept for up to 24 months, then deleted.
  • Client records: kept for the life of the working relationship, then for six years afterwards, because HMRC requires business records to be retained that long.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies of its own and runs no analytics or advertising scripts, so there's no cookie banner to click through. If that changes, this page will be updated first and you'll be asked before any optional cookies are set.

Your rights

You can ask me to:

  • Give you a copy of the information I hold about you
  • Correct anything that's wrong
  • Delete it
  • Stop using it, or restrict how it's used
  • Send it to you, or to someone else, in a portable format

Email me and I'll respond within one month, free of charge. Deleting an enquiry is usually a two-minute job, so please just ask.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, please tell me first — I'd rather fix it. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at any time: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this notice

If this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it. If the change is significant — a new tool, a new type of data — I'll say so here rather than quietly editing it.

Question about your data, or anything else?

Ask directly — you'll get a straight answer from the person who holds it.
